Syrian Tanks Pull Back From Hama
July 04, 2011
Tanks are reported to have pulled back from the central Syrian city of Hama.
Residents said tanks and armored vehicles moved north after moving close to the city of 650,000 and reportedly arresting tens of residents.
The move came days after the city witnessed its largest protest yet against President Bashir al-Assad.
Meanwhile, in a Damascus suburb that has also seen growing protests against Assad's rule, activists and a resident said police shot dead two protesters on July 3.
In Zurich, Swiss news agency SDA reported that Switzerland has blocked Syrian assets worth 27 million Swiss francs ($32 million).
The report could not be independently confirmed.
