Reports: IAEA Board To Send Syria Before UN Security Council
June 09, 2011
Reports say the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) board of governors has decided to bring Syria before the UN Security Council.
There has been pressure from the United States and other nations to rebuke Syria over alleged illicit nuclear activity.
The IAEA says a Syrian site destroyed in a 2007 Israeli raid was probably a nuclear reactor which should have been declared.
Syria insists that it was a non-nuclear, military site.
The push comes amid a separate effort by European nations to have the Security Council condemn the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad for its crackdown on protesters.
