Europeans Seek UN Condemnation Of Syria
May 26, 2011
European nations have circulated a UN resolution that would condemn Syria for its crackdown on peaceful protesters.
Western news agencies quote UN diplomats as saying Britain, France, Germany and Portugal have sent the draft text to all other members on the 15-nation council.
Last month, the Europeans, backed by the United States, tried to get council agreement on a statement condemning the Syrian violence.
But Russia was opposed while China and India called for a peaceful resolution of the crisis, with no mention of condemnation.
