15:17 03/12/2009 DAMASCUS, December 3 (RIA Novosti) - At least three people died in a blast involving a bus in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Thursday, national media reported.

Syrian TV quoted Syrian Interior Minister Mohammad Sammour as saying "there were no explosives involved" in the accident. He said the blast was not a terrorist attack, but the result of a tire exploding as it was being pumped up.

The incident happened at a petrol station near the Shia Muslim Sayyida Zeinab shrine.

The shrine, dedicated to the granddaughter of the Prophet Muhammad, is popular with Iranian and Lebanese pilgrims.

Last year, a car bomb killed 17 people near the shrine.
