- SUDAN - CHEMICAL WEAPONS Voice of America 04 August 1999 -- A U-N medical team is to arrive (Wednesday) in southern Sudan to treat victims of a possible chemical
or biological weapons attack. Rebel leaders say the
government in Khartoum used the weapons during a
bombing raid two-weeks ago.
- EGYPT / SUDAN Voice of America 14 August 1999 -- A senior Sudanese official has denied reports
that the Sudanese government dropped chemical weapons on rebel-held areas in southern Sudan. Sudan's Ambassador to Egypt, Ahmed Abdel Halim Mohammed, believes the reports are part of a larger effort to undermine peace talks between the Sudanese government and opposition parties.
