IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Nov 15, IRNA -- A request has been made for issuing death penalty for five out of eleven people accused of being involved in slaying dissident journalist, the Saudi deputy public prosecutor told reporters on Thursday.

While attempting to exonerate Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman in the murder, Shalaan al-Shalaan admitted following a 'fistfight' inside Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Jamal Khashoggi was injected with a deadly drug, lost his life, his body was dismembered and then was transferred out of the consulate.

He said the former deputy head of the Saudi intelligence agency has ordered the formation of a squad to murder the dissident journalist.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu had earlier said those who came from Saudi Arabia to Turkey had an 'order for the murder.'

Judicial officials in Saudi Arabia say investigations into the case to identify the other accessories to the crime are still underway.

Saud al-Qahtani, senior aide for Mohammed bin Salman has been interrogated and banned from traveling abroad, the sources say.

The Attorney General also claimed the Saudi crown prince has played no role whatsoever in the crime.
