On April 16, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola, who arrived in Moscow for the 18th meeting of the Mixed Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation as chair the South African part of the Committee.

The parties discussed a range of issues related to further strengthening the traditionally friendly Russian-South African relations with a focus on promoting mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, the economy, science, and technology. The ministers also reaffirmed Moscow and Pretoria's unwavering commitment to effectively coordinate actions at BRICS, the G20, the UN and in other multilateral formats in view to finding best solutions to current global and regional problems, in accordance with the principles of international law and the provisions of the UN Charter.
