18 November 2025 00:29

The practical phase of the MARUMEX 2025 Russian-Myanmar naval exercise has been completed in the waters of the Andaman Sea.

The Russian Navy was presented on the drills by a ship detachment of the Pacific Fleet as part of the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, the corvette Gremyashchiy, and the tanker Boris Butoma. The Myanmar Navy is represented on the practical phase by the Muttama landing helicopter dock, the frigate Kyansittha, the corvette Tabinshwehti, and the submarine Tabinshwehti.

For two days, the Russian Navy and Myanmar Navy crews practised command and control of the forces during joint manoeuvring, search, detection, and tracking submarines of the mock enemy, as well as during combat exercises with artillery and anti-submarine weapons. Counter-terrorism groups of both countries will take part in inspection operations and practise the liberation of a ship captured by the pirates.

The main purpose of the exercise was to comprehensively develop and strengthen naval cooperation, as well as to train in ensuring the safety of civilian navigation and maritime economic activities.

The practical phase of the exercise was held in the waters of the Andaman Sea following the completion of the Pacific Fleet's ships business call at the port of Thilawa of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
