CAIRO (Sputnik) - Russia and Egypt may intensify cooperation between the defense ministries and conduct joint combat training on a regular basis, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday.
"We believe it is important to intensify cooperation between the defense ministries of Russia and Egypt. Specifically, to conduct joint combat training events on a regular basis and to expand the regulatory framework for military cooperation. It is also possible to expand the training of Egyptian military personnel at Russian Defense Ministry universities," Shoigu said during a meeting with Egyptian Defense and Military Production Minister Abdel Mageed Saqr in Cairo.
Today, regular meetings of the joint Russian-Egyptian commission on military-technical cooperation are being held, Shoigu added.
"Russian weapons and equipment supplied to Egypt have become a crucial element in strengthening your country's comprehensive defense system. The proven reliability of Russian-made equipment allows us to maintain the high level of combat readiness of the Egyptian armed forces," Shoigu said.
