Barrier 2025 CSTO exercise: RKhM-8 chemical reconnaissance vehicle first-ever used in Tajikistan

Today, in the Republic of Tajikistan, at the Fakhrabad training ground, within the framework of the Barrier 2025 special exercise, the CSTO joint formation of the NBC Protection and medical support units was involved in practical actions aimed at eliminating sources of biological threats in the interests of the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces.
The unit, headed by Lieutenant Colonel Artyom Pashkovich, treated the refugees arriving at the camp, disinfected motor vehicles, and practised organisation of a quarantine zone.
The main objectives of the Barrier 2025 special exercise are to train in practice the joint performance of tasks by specialists of RBC protection and medical support units, as well as to organise cooperation with national authorities responsible for respond to large-scale and rapid spreads of dangerous infectious diseases.
Specialists of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Tajikistan are included in the joint formation. It is equipped with the latest military and special equipment. For the first time, an RKhM-8 reconnaissance chemical vehicle was used during the CSTO exercise. It is based on a Tigr armoured vehicle equipped with the latest radiation, chemical, and biological reconnaissance devices.
The main training issues being worked out by joint formation of CSTO NBC Protection and medical support units during the Barrier 2025 special exercise are: NBC reconnaissance, sampling and analysis, casualty decontamination, introduction of a quarantine regime, provision of medical care and evacuation of victims.
From 20 to 24 October, an active phase of the Unbreakable Brotherhood 2025 joint exercise with CSTO peacekeeping forces is held at the Fakhrabad training ground in Tajikistan, during which a peacekeeping operation on the territory of a CSTO member state is practised.
For the first time, within the framework of the peacekeeping exercise, a special exercise - Barrier 2025 - is being conducted with joint formation of CSTO NBC Protection and medical support units. During these exercises, the joint formation of CSTO NBC Protection and medical support is directly subordinated to the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces Commander. The main task of the joint formation in the exercise is to ensure the biological safety of the coalition grouping of forces.
Military contingents of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and the operational groups of the CSTO Joint Staff and the CSTO Secretariat take part in the Unbreakable Brotherhood 2025 and Barrier 2025 exercises. The Russian contingent is based on units of the 201st military base of the Central Military District, including mountain units, communication units, electronic warfare units, NBC Protection units, medical units, and UAV teams. The total number of participants in the exercise is about 1,500 as well as more than 200 units of military and special hardware, including 6 helicopters and over 20 UAVs.
Active phases of the CSTO exercises are being conducted in conjunction with the final stage of the joint anti-terrorism training of the competent authorities of the CIS member states, Commonwealth Anti-Terror 2025.
