On September 23, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin held meetings on the sidelines of the High-Level Week, which is taking place at the UN's Headquarters in New York as part of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, with Under-Secretary-General and Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies Amandeep Singh Gill (India) and International Telecommunications Union Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin (United States).

During these meetings, participants exchanged views on various topics dealing with using information and communications technologies (ICT), including artificial intelligence (AI), and affirmed that the United Nations and its agencies must play a key role in regulating ICT.

These conversations highlighted the major contribution by the Russian Federation to developing and promoting multilateral initiatives in this domain, mentioning as the most recent example the adoption by the UN General Assembly of a resolution on the modalities for the establishment and functioning of the Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence and the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance. The parties also emphasised their commitment to ensuring that Russian experts work with various specialised platforms within the United Nations.

During these conversations, participants agreed to continue working together in a constructive manner for carrying out the resolutions of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and stressed the importance of extending the WSIS process for bridging the digital divide.
