Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia will reciprocate to China's visa-free travel policy to Russian citizens, allowing Chinese citizens to visit Russia visa free, RT reported on Friday.

Putin told a Chinese senior official during the ongoing Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, according to RT. And this will impact "millions of Russians," boosting business contacts and people to people contacts between the two countries.

"It's a kind gesture on behalf of China. What I mean is declaring visa exemption travel, these are visa-free travels for Russian nationals traveling to China. The decision that was made unilaterally and it's a very important decision. I would like to express words of gratitude for this decision, because that's an outstanding decision," Putin told the forum, according to RT.

"Russia would reciprocate this friendly gesture, and we'll do the same," Putin said, per RT.

Putin earlier expressed gratitude to Chinese leader for visa-free travel policy for Russian citizens, TASS reported on Thursday.

China has decided to trial visa-free policy for Russian citizens holding ordinary passports starting from September 15, 2025 to September 14, 2026, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.

Russian citizens holding ordinary passports who come to China for business, tourism, visiting relatives and friends or exchange visits and transit for no more than 30 days can enter China visa-free, spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference.

China attaches great importance to the facilitation of personnel exchanges between the two countries and supports strengthening bilateral people-to-people exchanges, Guo said. "We welcome more Russian friends to visit China more often."
