MFA statement on note of protest sent to Russian Federation
Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Republic of Poland
21.08.2025
Today the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland handed a note of protest to the Russian Federation to voice Poland's strong protest against an incident that occurred on the night of 19 August 2025 in Osiny, Lubelskie province.
The document states that the incident, which consisted in an explosion of an unmanned aircraft, amounts to Russia breaching its commitments to respect Poland's sovereignty set out in such international agreements as the Treaty between the Republic of Poland and the Russian Federation on friendly and good-neighbourly cooperation and the Convention on International Civil Aviation.
The Ministry considers these events to be another intentional provocation which fits the pattern of Russia's hybrid activities carried out against not only Poland but also other European countries. We strongly condemn any actions of the Russian Federation that pose a threat to civilians, infrastructure, or aviation safety.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs demands that the Russian side immediately provide explanations on the incident, especially regarding its circumstances and the reasons behind the unmanned aircraft's entry on the Polish territory, as well as information on measures undertaken by the Russian authorities to prevent similar situations in the future. We call for an immediate end to any hostile and provocative actions against Poland and reiterate that the liability for the consequences of similar incidents lies entirely with the Russian side.
Russia's hostile actions against Poland are taken in parallel to the war of aggression against Ukraine—a gross violation of international law and fundamental humanitarian principles which inflicted hundreds of thousands of casualties.
