On August 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov engaged in talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Ayman Safadi, during his official visit to Moscow.

The discussions between the two foreign ministers encompassed a comprehensive review of pivotal international and regional issues. They reiterated the vital importance of resolving ongoing conflicts and crises in the Middle East solely through political and diplomatic channels, in full compliance with the principles of the UN Charter and the resolutions of its Security Council.

The sides emphasised the urgent necessity for de-escalation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, alongside intensified efforts to rejuvenate the peace process which must result in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, coexisting peacefully and securely with Israel. Sergey Lavrov lauded Jordan's initiatives in facilitating the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, including the provision of humanitarian assistance to Palestinians.

In their discourse on the situation in and around Syria, the ministers expressed their support for a comprehensive strategy to address the repercussions of the prolonged crisis, notably through the promotion of an inclusive national dialogue. They underscored the imperative of preserving Syria's unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty.

Sergey Lavrov and Ayman Safadi stressed the significance of strengthening bilateral foreign policy coordination, maintaining a trust-based political dialogue, and expanding the exchange of delegations. They highlighted the necessity to expand practical collaboration and ensure consistent growth in bilateral trade. Both parties concurred on the importance of revitalising the work of the Russian-Jordanian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, with its seventh session slated to take place in Moscow before the close of this year.

Sergey Lavrov articulated Russia's assessment of the evolving geopolitical landscape, including the situation in Ukraine. He reaffirmed Russia's commitment to a comprehensive and sustainable resolution of the Ukrainian crisis, attainable only through the complete eradication of its root causes.

The meeting culminated in the signing of an Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on the mutual abolition of visa requirements for citizens of both nations. This measure is anticipated to facilitate further growth in tourism, cultural exchanges, and business contacts.
