During the NATO Summit in The Hague, President Gitanas Nausėda met with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss the security situation in Europe and sanctions against Russia.

The President thanked Canada for its active role in strengthening NATO forces in the Baltic region, where Canada leads the Alliance's enhanced forward presence in Latvia. The Lithuanian and Canadian leaders also discussed support for Ukraine and sanctions on Russia.

"It is clearly evident that Russia is not seeking peace negotiations. Therefore, it is critical for the European Union, together with Canada and the United Kingdom, to increase pressure on the aggressor. Russia's shadow fleet is one of the main instruments financing its war machine, and sanctions against it must be expanded," the President said.

President Nausėda also highlighted the potential for deeper bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Canada, particularly in the fields of biotechnology, finance, defense technologies, cybersecurity, green energy, and communications.
