Mr Yermekbayev,

We are delighted to welcome you and your delegation to Moscow. Let me once again congratulate you on your appointment to the responsible position of Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

I have no doubt that the positive experience of our joint work, when you held various positions in Astana, and your experience of working at the Secretariat will enable us to ensure continuity in cooperation and to continue to expand our close and productive collaboration.

You have taken over at the Secretariat at a crucial time, as a new world order is taking shape. This protracted and difficult process involves addressing many challenges in transitioning from the unipolar world to a more just, democratic world order. In the context of these processes, the SCO is set to play an important role by virtue of its very existence. The organisation has impressive potential that needs to be harnessed effectively. We have no doubt that your experience will help it advance in that direction.

You can count on the support of Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian Embassy in Beijing, and the Russian staff at the SCO Secretariat for all your initiatives.

Today, I hope to discuss these issues in detail with you and to hear about the ideas you would like to promote while in your present post. This is important to us.
