Comment by Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna on the decision by 12 European states on further measures to counter Russia's shadow fleet
"I welcome today's agreement by 12 European leaders to take joint action to deter Russia's shadow fleet. Together with the countries located around the Baltic Sea and the Nordic Sea, we have decided to coordinate actions to counter Russia's shadow fleet, which Russia is using to fund its war machine, and we are collecting information relating to the fleet. The shadow fleet, which often includes old vessels, presents risks to Europe's security, economy, and environment. This allows us to plan further targeted measures. As early as June, Estonia was the first country to start checks on Russia's shadow fleet and has requested proof of insurance from more than 250 ships. This will not change after today's decision. We will continue working together and in coordination with Denmark, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and United Kingdom."
