The Russian Defence Minister addressed the Joint Collegium of the Defence Ministry of Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation
At the beginning of the statement, Andrei Belousov expressed his gratitude to the Belarusian side for the traditional pleasure and hospitality and also noted that the military cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus continues to be actively developed. This is especially important in the face of open pressure from the Collective West and the NATO hostile activity near the borders of the Union State.
The Russian Defence Minister recalled that this year the NATO has conducted the largest series of drills since the Cold War, where scenarios of full-scale conflict with Russia and its allies were practised. In addition, the coalition forces of the Alliance are increasing in number, as well as training, combat, and reconnaissance activities.
The growing involvement of the West in the conflict in Ukraine creates global risks. The desire to inflict maximum damage on Russia can lead to direct military clash between the nuclear powers. We cannot but respond to these threats', said the Russian Defence Minister.
As Andrei Belousov stressed, changes in the military and political situation made it necessary to refine the Russian Federation's basic state policy on nuclear deterrence and adjust it to new realities. Among other things, it is possible to use nuclear weapons in response to the aggression against Belarus as a member of the Union State.
The Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation also announced that the treaty between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation on Military Security Guarantees and the new Russian-Belarusian Security Concept were currently being finalised.
The formation of a common defence space with Belarus continues. We are improving cooperation on issues of joint use of armed forces to ensure the military security of our union of countries', said the Russian Defence Minister.
