Active phase of Rubezh 2024 joint exercise finishes in Tajikistan

21.10.2024

An active phase of Rubezh 2024 joint exercise with the Central Asian region's Collective Rapid Deployment Forces completed at the Kharbmaydon training ground in Tajikistan, during which issues related to the preparation and conduct of combat operations to destroy illegal armed groups that have invaded the territory of a CSTO member state were practised.

According to the scenario, the mock enemy has crossed the state border in several directions. The border troops have engaged in combat, but the forces and means proved to be insufficient, the 'adversary', capturing settlements and civilians as hostages, moved into the depths of the territory.

The Commander of the Central Asian region's Collective Rapid Deployment Forces employed artillery, ground-attack and army aviation to prevent the main enemy forces from advancing. This made it possible to stop the enemy and allowed the collective forces to occupy advantageous defence lines.

During the defensive battle, all types of weapons were used; the troops practised fire transfer and concentration of fire. This created favourable conditions for a counter-attack. In the course of the counter-attacks, the Central Asian region's Collective Rapid Deployment Forces defeated the enemy's units.

Tactical airborne assault was deployed to prevent the enemy from using reserves. They successfully carried out the task. Later, the Central Asian region's Collective Rapid Deployment Forces restored the situation along the state border.

The Rubezh 2024 joint exercise at the Kharbmaydon training ground was attended by military contingents from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and operational teams of the CSTO Joint Staff and Secretariat. The Russian contingent is based on Central Military District personnel from the 201st military base. The total number of participants in the exercise was about 1,500 personnel and 250 military and special hardware, including aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs.

Russian, Chinese, Indian, Iranian, Turkish, and U.S. defence attachés accredited in the Republic of Tajikistan and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross attended the active phase of the Rubezh 2024 exercise.
