In Sea of Okhotsk Russian and Chinese warships employ anti-submarine and anti-aircraft weaponry during exercise

30.09.2024

In the Sea of Okhotsk, a ship battle force of the Pacific Fleet and the Chinese Navy during the Beibu/Interaction 2024 Russian-Chinese naval drills conducted anti-submarine warfare and organised air defence employing the weaponry.

According to the plan of the drills, the ships trained joined manoeuvres after arriving at the assigned area. Then they trained to repel assaults of fixed-wing attack UAVs. The assault UAVs were engaged by fire of an anti-aircraft artillery system, an AK-630 artillery system, and heavy machine guns.

The ships trained in search of a mock enemy's submarine during the second phase of the exercise. A diesel-electric submarine of the Pacific fleet was deployed for this purpose. The ships performed joined formation and tactical manoeuvres to search the submarine of the mock enemy.

The anti-submarine warfare was the last phase of the Beibu/Interaction 2024 Russian-Chinese naval drills. The joint exercise HQ thanked the crews of the ships for the work they had done.

The joint ship detachment of the Pacific Fleet and People's Liberation Army Navy left Vladivostok on 21 September. On the Russian side, the joint detachment includes the large anti-submarine ships Admiral Panteleyev and Admiral Tributs, the small anti-submarine ships MPK-82 and MPK-107, and the small missile ship Smerch of the Pacific Fleet. The destroyers Xining and Wuxi, the frigate Linyi, and replenishment ship Taihu are involved in the drills from the Chinese PLA Navy.
