Ocean 2024 CPX: Baltic Fleet ships destroy mock enemy submarine

16.09.2024

During the Ocean 2024 strategic naval drills in the Baltic Sea waters, the small anti-submarine ship Aleksin in cooperation with the Ka-27PL naval anti-submarine helicopters of the Fleet trained in locating, detecting and destroying a submarine of a mock enemy.

The seamen, in cooperation with the Ka-27PL anti-submarine helicopters, practised joint anti-submarine operation: they conducted exercises to search for, detect, and destroy a submarine with the use of anti-submarine weapons.

According to the scenario, there was likely a submarine of a mock enemy in an area of one of the Baltic Fleet's naval surface groups. The enemy crew was tasked with destroying the naval surface group.

The small anti-submarine ship and naval helicopters of the Fleet were sent to the assigned area. The helicopters hovered over the water surface and used anti-submarine hydroacoustic stations to detect a target. The position data of the target was sent to the small anti-submarine ship Aleksin. After that, the detected submarine was 'destroyed' with a RBU-600 rocket depth launcher and shipborne torpedoes.

In addition to antisubmarine warfare, the ship's crew successfully performed an artillery live fires at various targets with live fires.

More than 400 warships, submarines and support vessels, over 120 naval aircraft, some 7,000 units of weaponry, military and special hardware, and more than 90,000 personnel participate in the drills, which take place in the waters of the Pacific and Arctic oceans, Mediterranean, Caspian, and Baltic seas. The Ocean 2024 strategic command post exercise is aimed at checking the readiness of the senior staff of the Russian Navy to operate all-arms groups of forces in the areas of responsibility, to solve non-standard operational tasks, to make full use of high-precision weapons, advanced and modern weapons and military hardware in the practical part of the exercise, and to expand cooperation with the navies of partner countries to perform joint maritime missions.
