Ocean 2024 CPX: Northern Fleet ships launch artillery strikes to hit mock enemy in Barents Sea
13.09.2024
During the Ocean 2024 strategic command post exercise, a naval search and strike force of the Northern Fleet hit a mock enemy in the Barents Sea waters.
The surface action group comprised frigates Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov and Admiral Golovko.
Command post of the frigates trained to designate targets for further employment of the ships artillery guns.
Ships' artillery crews received the position data of the surface target.
Strikes were carried out by the artillery system of the AK-192M on a naval target position simulating a mock enemy ship and located at a distance of more than 10 kilometres.
Objective control systems confirmed successful engagement of the targets. The ships' crews showed well-coordinated operation, high professionalism, and readiness to use weapons in any environment.
The ships set passive electronic jamming by EW stations to counter high-precision weapons of a mock enemy.
The Project 22350 frigates are modern multi-role ships with guided missile weapons designed for missions in off-shore maritime and oceanic zones. The ships equipped with Tsirkon missiles are capable of delivering pinpoint and powerful strikes at maritime and ground targets. A unique feature of the Tsirkon hypersonic missiles is their capability to overcome modern and future air defence / missile defence systems.
The Ocean 2024 exercise includes elements of protecting coastal civilian facilities and the Northern Fleet garrisons, command and control over all-arms groups of forces in their area of responsibility, non-standard operational tasks, as well as comprehensive use of precision weapons, advanced and modern samples of weapons and military hardware.
According the training plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, formations and units of the Russian Navy have started taking part in the Ocean 2024 strategic command post exercise, which is to last until 16 September 2024. The exercise, which is one of the most important operational and combat training events of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in 2024, is to be conducted in a bilateral format under the overall command of Admiral Aleksandr Moiseyev, the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy.
More than 400 warships, submarines and support vessels, over 120 naval aircraft, some 7,000 units of weaponry, military and special hardware, and more than 90,000 personnel participate in the drills, which take place in the waters of the Pacific and Arctic oceans, Mediterranean, Caspian, and Baltic seas.
The Ocean 2024 strategic command post exercise is aimed at checking the readiness of the senior staff of the Russian Navy to operate all-arms groups of forces in the areas of responsibility, to solve non-standard operational tasks, to make full use of high-precision weapons, advanced and modern weapons and military hardware in the practical part of the exercise, and to expand cooperation with the navies of partner countries to perform joint maritime missions.
