Briefing by Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff on readiness of control bodies and construction CSTO collective security forces for joint exercises

29.08.2024

Today, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff Colonel General Andrei Serdyukov held a briefing on readiness of command and control bodies and construction of the CSTO collective security forces for joint exercises.

In a video conference mode, the event was attended by military press services and mass media representing CSTO member states.

The information on the briefing is presented below.

We are now at the final stage of the command and control bodies preparation and construction of the CSTO collective security forces. Thus, joint exercises are to be held this year in September-October.

We have taken into the account all combat experience of the modern warfare including the special military operation, the war in Syria, and the Arab-Israeli conflict. The forms and methods of the modern warfare are to be analysed, learned, and integrated during the operative and combat training.

The joint training becomes more intensive every year. We pay significant attention to drones and anti-drone assets, the EW, and the fire engagement. Today, all these matters are crucial on the battlefield.

This year, in the framework of military and technical cooperation, we have reached an agreement that the armaments developed by the Russian defence industry will demonstrate their capabilities in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Other member states of the organisation will also present their weaponry during all events.

In the framework of the CSTO exercises, a number of events involving CSTO Secretariat and CSTO defence ministries will be held. They are as follows: consultations, independent and joint command post trainings, a strategic command post training, staff level talks, working meetings on development and synchronisation of exercises plans, and fieldwork in the area of the future exercises.

Interaction 2024 command post exercise is the main operational and combat training event of the Troops (Collective Forces) to be held in the Kyrgyz Republic during the first half of September involving the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force (CRRF). Search 2024 and Echelon 2024 special exercises will be conducted in the interests of the CSTO CRRF involving reconnaissance and combat service support forces.

The exercises focus on the use of forces and means to address crisis situations.

In early October, we are going to hold Unbreakable Brotherhood 2024 command post exercise in the Republic of Kazakhstan involving the CSTO peacekeeping force.

During the exercise, it is planned to practise redeployment of national contingents, formation of the CSTO Collective Peacekeeping Forces in the designated area, and planning and conducting a peacekeeping operation.

In mid October, the final stage will include the Rubezh 2024 joint exercise to involve the Central Asian region's Collective Rapid Deployment Forces in the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan. These forces are designed for repelling an external military aggression, combined-arms, counter-terrorism, and special operations.

In mountain-desert terrain, exercises will be held to prepare command and control units, deploy military contingents, and plan and conduct combat operations to neutralise illegal armed groups.

The personal participation of CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov in the final stages of the exercise testifies to the importance of these events.

Compiled results of the joint exercises will be the subject of an in-depth study and will be put into practice in the future.

I would like to emphasise that the planned events with the CSTO Troops (Collective Forces) are aimed at collective protection of independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of the CSTO member states. They are organised in full compliance with international rules and are not aimed against other countries.

Representatives of the following non-CSTO states have been invited as observers to the exercises in the Republic of Kyrgyzstan: the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the People's Republic of China, Mongolia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the United Nations Secretariat, the SCO Secretariat, the CIS Executive Committee and Anti-Terrorism Centre.

In addition, on 11 September, the final stage will be attended by the parliamentarians/members of the Coordination Meeting of Chairpersons of Committees (Commissions) on Defence and Security of the Parliaments of the CSTO Member States under the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation.

At the moment, work is in progress to reach an agreement on invitation of observers to the Rubezh 2024 exercise in Tajikistan.

In total, more than 5,000 military personnel and more than 900 units of armaments, military and support equipment will be engaged in the joint, command post and special exercises.

On 4 September, practical preparations will begin to deploy the Troops (Collective Forces) in the exercise areas. Troops and equipment are transported to the training grounds by air, rail, and road.
