Opening ceremony of Selenga 2024 joint Russian-Mongolian military exercise held in Mongolia

The opening ceremony of the Selenga 2024 joint Russian-Mongolian military exercise was held in Mongolia The ceremony was held at a field camp near the town of Choibalsan.

This is the first time that Mongolia has hosted a joint exercise involving the armed forces of a foreign state.

At the opening ceremony, the national flags were raised and the anthems of both participating states were performed. The right to raise the flag of the joint exercise was given to tactical group commanders Ravil Tukayev and Boldasaikhan Galbarakh.

'I am convinced that the upcoming exercise will be a continuation of the glorious traditions of our grandfathers and fathers, will contribute to better and more fruitful cooperation aimed at strengthening security in the region and raising Russian-Mongolian relations to a new level,' Colonel Ivan Taraev, Assistant Commander of the Eastern Military District troops, addressed the audience.

He also congratulated the exercise participants on the transition of the tactical level of the event to a joint level. Ivan Tarayev noted that almost all military branches were present at the opening.

It is worth noting that the Selenga 2024 joint Russian-Mongolian exercise is given special importance. It is aimed at combating international terrorism and is being held on the eve of the 85th anniversary of the victory of Soviet-Mongolian troops over militaristic Japan during the battle on the Khalkhin Gol River.

The official part of the opening ceremony was followed by a rich programme of cultural events with the participation of creative teams from Russia and Mongolia, as well as military personnel of the two countries.

For the first time this year, the joint exercise involves units of the Land Forces, Aerospace Forces and Special Forces of Russia and Mongolia. About 700 servicemen will take part in the event and about 200 units of military equipment will be deployed.
