Russian helicopters undergo combat training in Tajikistan highlands

15.08.2024

Russian crews of the Mi-8MTV5-1 transport and combat helicopters and the Mi-24 attack helicopters of the 201st Air Force Base aviation group practised search and elimination of mock enemy in the mountains of Tajikistan.

During the drills conducted as part of the training flights, the crews practised reconnaissance of enemy forces and armour in hard-to-reach highland areas. At low altitudes at the Liaur training ground, the S-8 unguided air-to-surface missiles were launched electronically at a concentration of hardware and manpower of the mock enemy. In addition, the pilots honed piloting skills when passing mountain gorges, summit and rock areas, and landing helicopters on areas up to 3,000 metres above sea level.

The 201st military base in Tajikistan is the Russia's largest military facility outside the country. It is located in two cities: Dushanbe and Bokhtar. It includes motorised rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance, air defence, nuclear, biological, and chemical protection troops, and signal troops.
