Pacific Fleet ship detachment enters Strait of Malacca

The Pacific Fleet ship detachment comprising the Guards Order of Nakhimov missile cruise Varyag and frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov entered the Strait of Malacca.

Before that, the ship detachment crossed the Indian Ocean. Prior to entering the Strait of Malacca, the sailors underwent air defence and damage control drills.

The Guards Order of Nakhimov missile cruise Varyag and frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov start voyage through the Asia-Pacific region.

The Singapore Strait is on the way of the crews, where the traffic of ships is traditionally intensive. The detachment will undergo training to cross an area with intensive maritime navigation. Before passing the narrow areas during the drills, the personnel will practise actions to ensure safe manoeuvering in an area with an intensive maritime navigation.

The long-distance mission of the Pacific Fleet's detachment began on 22 January 2024. During this time, the Pacific sailors have conducted dozens of training sessions in combat training and organisation of the ships' daily activities at sea. The crews also made business calls at the ports of countries such as the Republic of India, Republic of Sri Lanka, Islamic Republic of Iran, State of Qatar, and State of Eritrea.
