
Northern Fleet frigate Admiral Gorshkov enters Mediterranean Sea

Today, a detachment of ships and support vessels of the Northern Fleet led by the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, which is carrying out tasks in off-shore maritime zone, has completed the transatlantic sail and entered the Mediterranean Sea through the Strait of Gibraltar.
Previously, in the Atlantic Ocean, the frigate crew held a number of exercises on the anti-submarine search as well as on the defence of a detachment of ships against the means of air enemy on sea passage.
Earlier, on 23 July, the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, fully replenished its reserves from the tanker Akademik Pashin.
In the Mediterranean Sea, the frigate is to perform a number of military-diplomatic missions and also practise interaction with other Russian ships. A number of business calls are planned at the ports in the Mediterranean area.
The long-distance voyage of the Northern Fleet frigate Admiral Gorshkov started on 17 May 2024. The main tasks of the mission are to demonstrate the flag and ensure a naval presence in important areas of the far ocean zone.
The Russian frigate has already made a call at the port of Havana, the Republic of Cuba, and at the port of La Guaira, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
The frigate Admiral Gorshkov is a modern multipurpose ship with guided missile weapons designed for missions in off-shore maritime zone and oceanic zones. The frigate was commissioned by the Navy in 2018, and it was upgraded for the use of Tsirkon hypersonic missiles in 2021. The ship, armed with high-precision missile weapons, is capable of launching accurate and powerful strikes against the enemy at sea and on land.
