Helicopters practise deck landing during Russia-China joint patrols in Philippine Sea

11.07.2024

In the Philippine Sea, shipborne helicopters of the Pacific Fleet and PLA Navy conducted actions to organise mutual deck landings on each other's ships as part of joint naval patrols.

At the beginning of the training, a joint detachment made up of the Pacific Fleet's corvette Sovershenny, destroyer Yinchuan, frigate Hengshui of the PLA Navy regrouped into a special battle formation.

After taking the assigned course and speed, the deck helicopters took off from the Russian and Chinese ships. The helicopters of the Pacific Fleet and PLA Navy made flights around the ships and carried out deck landings simultaneously clockwise on each other's vessels. At that time, the air groups practised receiving helicopters on their decks and guided the pilots by radio communication.

Moreover, without shutting off the engines, the helicopters took off from the ships and following the approved procedure returned to their ships.

During this training, the helicopters stayed on the specified altitude of 200 metres.

The joint patrols are intended to strengthen naval cooperation between Russia and China, to maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, to monitor offshore zone and to protect the facilities of the Russian Federation and People's Republic of Chine. The first Russian-Chinese joint naval patrol was conducted in 2021.
