Pacific Fleet's corvette Sovershenny and PLA Navy ships conduct ship inspection training during joint patrolling in Philippine Sea

09.07.2024

The Pacific Fleet's corvette Sovershenny jointly with a PLA Navy detachment made up of the destroyer Yinchuan, frigate Hengshui, and general cargo vessel Weishan trained inspecting a vessel of interest during joint patrolling in the Philippine Sea.

During the inspection of a ship of interest, Russian and Chinese naval personnel practised the actions of the boarding teams. According to the training scenario, the frigate Hengshui of the PLA Navy simulated the ship of interest, which was stopped on call. The Pacific Fleet's shipborne helicopters were scrambled from the destroyer Yinchuan and corvette Sovershenny to provide air support.

The boarding team made up of Russian and Chinese military personnel practised joint actions to conduct inspection inside the ship, checked documents on the cargo transported, and inspected the cargo itself.

As a result of organised search actions on board, the weapons were detected and the ship's master was arrested.

The joint patrols are intended to strengthen naval cooperation between Russia and China, to maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, to monitor offshore zone and to protect the facilities of the Russian Federation and People's Republic of Chine. The first Russian-Chinese joint naval patrol was conducted in 2021.
