On May 16, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania summoned a representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation to Lithuania and handed a diplomatic note expressing strong protest over the Russian Federation's decision to include Lithuanian politicians in the list of wanted persons for decisions taken in the performance of their direct duties.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs repeatedly stressed to the Russian representative that these Russian Federation decisions were contrary to universally recognised norms of international law, demonstrated efforts to falsify historical facts, and expressed disrespect for the Republic of Lithuania.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania demanded to end the politically motivated persecution of Lithuanian citizens immediately.
This is the second protest note issued to Russian diplomats this year regarding the political persecution of citizens of the Republic of Lithuania. The first note was handed on February 14, 2024.
