Defence Staff Chief of the Russian Armed Forces holds a meeting of CSTO Military Committee

Chief of General Staff General of the Russian Armed Forces - First Deputy Defence Minister Valery Gerasimov chaired a teleconference of the CSTO Military Committee.

The meeting was also attended by delegations from the General Staffs of the armed forces of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, as well as representatives of the CSTO Joint Staff and the CSTO Secretariat.

During the meeting, the sides assessed the military and political situation in the area of responsibility of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, threats and security challenges faced by the CSTO member states, and outlined ways of further interaction in the military sphere.

'We agreed to continue work towards neutralising existing threats and improving the Organisation's military potential,' General of the Army Valery Gerasimov said.

In addition, the CSTO general staff delegations paid particular attention to the issues of conducting joint operational and combat training activities.

The main exercises this year will be the Unbreakable Brotherhood exercises in the Republic of Kazakhstan involving the CSTO Peacekeeping Forces. Also on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic, there will be the Interaction joint exercises involving the Collective Rapid Reaction Force, the Echelon exercises involving combat service support forces, and the Search exercises involving reconnaissance units. The Rubezh 2024 exercises involving the Collective Rapid Reaction Force is to take place in the Central Asian Region.

'We have agreed on further work on developing the CSTO Collective Air Forces and establishing air defence in the Central Asian region of collective security', General of the Army Valery Gerasimov noted.

In addition, the session featured modern approaches to organise the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and counter them by electronic warfare based on the experience gained during the special military operation in Ukraine.

'We have arranged to introduce the combat experience into CSTO training,' the head of the Russian General Staff said.

Summing up the results of the CSTO Military Committee, Chief of General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces - First Deputy Defence Minister of the Russian Federation General of the Army Valery Gerasimov noted that it took place in a business and constructive manner, and its results will contribute to the continued development and strengthening of the military security of the Organisation's member states.
