
Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Yusuf Maitama Tuggar

On March 6, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, who is in Moscow on a working visit.
During the meeting, Moscow and Abuja reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further progressive development of Russian-Nigerian cooperation in political, trade, economic, humanitarian and other areas. The sides discussed the prospects for expanding business contacts and implementing joint projects in energy, mining and mineral processing, construction and modernising infrastructure, and agriculture.
The foreign ministers exchanged views on the key issues on the global and African agendas with a focus on UN Security Council reforms, settlement of regional conflicts, and the situation in the Sahara-Sahel region. They emphasised the priority of political and diplomatic methods of unblocking crisis situations on the continent with a leading role taken by the Africans themselves and with support from the international community. The ministers noted the close proximity of approaches to a Middle East settlement. They expressed their intention to further strengthen the coordination of actions in the UN and other multilateral platforms.
The sides also devoted considerable attention to further promotion of the Russian-African partnership in the context of implementing decisions taken as a result of the Second Russia-Africa Summit.
