Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergei Shoigu addresses special teleconference with leadership of Russian Armed Forces

02.02.2024

Today, the National Centre for State Defence Control hosted a special teleconference with the leadership of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. Defence Minister of the Russian Federation General of the Army Sergei Shoigu addressed the special teleconfrence:

'Today is a memorable date, the Day of Military Glory of Russia - the Day of the defeat of the Nazi troops in the Battle of Stalingrad. Congratulations to everyone on this event, on this date. The date is historic, a date earned, conquered by those who were before us: our fathers and grandfathers. So, I congratulate you all on this day.

I would like to start with the situation in the special military operation zone.

After the enemy's counteroffensive failed, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation retain the strategic initiative along the entire line of contact.

Our units are moving forward, expanding areas of control, improving positions along the front lines.

As a result of the Russian troops' actions, Veseloye, Krakhmalnoye, and Tabayevka were liberated in Kupyansk, Krasny Liman, and Donetsk directions.

The Russian Groups of Forces continue to methodically reduce the enemy's combat potential.

As a result of systemic strikes, the AFU losses over the past month exceeded 23,000 Ukrainian troops killed and wounded.

More than 3,000 pieces of weaponry, including foreign-made samples, were destroyed. That includes German-made Leopard tanks, U.S.-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, Patriot and HIMARS combat vehicles.

In January, the Russian Armed Forces launched 127 strikes by precision weapons at Ukrainian military infrastructure and military industrial complex facilities.

Weapons production, modernisation and repair facilities, arsenals, military airfields, POL bases, deployment areas of AFU units and foreign mercenaries were struck.

In order to prevent the defence from collapsing, the Ukrainian leadership is throwing its remaining reserves into the battle and hastily carrying out another forced mobilisation.

The Zelensky regime carries out terrorist acts against Russian civilians to show its Western handlers some success.

At the same time, the leaders in Kiev do not shy away from killing their own citizens.

For example, last week a Russian aircraft with Ukrainian servicemen onboard transported for exchange was attacked and shot down from Ukrainian territory.

This speaks of the cynical nature of Kiev's actions, which is ready to commit any crime to achieve selfish goals.

The Russian Groups of Forces continue to perform tasks set out by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.

Next, we shall discuss the thematic part of our meeting.

The first question concerns the organisation of the participation of the personnel of the Armed Forces in the forthcoming presidential elections of the Russian Federation. This event will be the most significant political one in 2024.

For the first time, voting will last three days, from 15 to 17 March.

The preparations have entered their final phase.

Issues relating to the participation in the elections of military personnel, members of their families, and civilian personnel of the Armed Forces are being worked out in detail.

Particular attention is payed to organisation of voting of the military personnel deployed in the special military operation zone.

Today, let's discuss how preparations are going for the military electorate's participation in the election campaign.

Next, let us consider the state and prospects for the development of military training aviation.

For flight personnel to master and effectively use modern aviation systems, high-quality initial training at universities is required.

To this end, the Russian Defence Ministry is expanding the material means of the Russian Aerospace Forces flight training institutions and increasing the enrolment of cadets.

Industrial enterprises are developing promising models of aircraft to renew the fleet of training aircraft.

At the meeting, we will discuss what else is needed to be done to improve the quality of cadet pilot training'.
