Sergei Shoigu inspects fulfilment of state defence order at defence industry enterprises in Yekaterinburg

30.01.2024

Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation General of the Army General Sergei Shoigu has visited the Central Military District and inspected the fulfilment of the state defence order at the defence industry enterprises in Yekaterinburg.

Sergey Shoigu inspected the production of Kalibr sea-launched cruise missiles and Iskander operational-tactical cruise missiles at Almaz Antey Corporation.

Farid Abdrakhmanov, General Director of Novator Design Bureau, informed the Russian Defence Minister that despite a significant increase in the 2023 State Defence Order, the production plan for the manufactured products has been fully met. This was achieved by expanding the company's production capacity and switching to a 24-hour, three-shift system for assembling components at all the plants.

During his visit to Novator Design Bureau, the Russia's Defence Minister inquired about the progress of this year's cruise missile production plan. The Russian Defence Minister was informed that despite the doubling of the plan, the enterprise has already fulfilled the state order for defence equipment by 17%.

At the Kalinin Plant, Sergei Shoigu inspected the organisation of production at the final assembly workshop for launchers and loaders for the S-300V and Buk air defence systems. The first batch of these systems is already being assembled under the 2024 State Defence Order.

Nikolai Klein, General Director of PJSC MZIK, informed the Minister that the enterprise had completed production under the 2023 State Defence Order ahead of schedule and had immediately begun implementation of the 2024 Order. The head of the enterprise noted that 'we are working day and night'.

After finishing his work, the Russian Defence Minister summarised the results at a meeting attended by the heads of the enterprises as well as representatives of the military administration.

'We have had a look at practically all the production facilities. We talked to chief engineers and designers. A lot of new equipment has appeared. In this respect, there has been a significant increase in the volume of production. We have more than doubled production of the missiles we need for air defence. I hope that this year's programme will be fully implemented,' the Russian Defence Minister said at the meeting.

'In addition, we are working with you on modernisation, which should significantly increase what we have today,' Sergei Shoigu added. 'But there are some key issues we need to address. And we need to address them quite vigorously. There is the question of engines, and there is the question of the establishment of launcher production'.
