Russian Defence Minister inspects development of central research institutions of Russian Defence Ministry in Moscow region

During a working visit to the Western MD's units, Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu inspected the progress of modernisation of the experimental bases of the Russian Defence Ministry's research institutes deployed in the Moscow region.

The Russian Defence Minister was informed that thanks to the improvement of the experimental base of the 12th Central Research Institute of the Russian Defence Ministry, the number of weapons and military-special equipment samples tested has multiplied.

In the research and testing complex of the 12th Central Research Institute of the Russian Ministry of Defence, the head of the Russian military department was briefed on the research conducted by the institution.

The head of the 12th Central Research Institute of the Russian Defence Ministry Igor Kolesnikov pointed out that the modernisation of the institute's experimental and testing facilities, carried out as part of the State Armament Programme, will make it possible to shorten the duration of state tests, increase the institute's throughput capacity and bring test conditions as close as possible to full-scale explosive experiments.

In the course of the working visit Russian Defence Minister inspected development of infrastructure of the 48th Central Research Institute of the Russian Defence Ministry. Chief of Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Protection Troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov briefed Sergei Shoigu on that two new buildings of the research cluster are currently being prepared for commissioning at the institute. The main stage of construction of the facilities has already been completed.

The construction of new laboratory buildings will ensure the creation of a research cluster in the interests of biological defence. It will make it possible to identify biological threats in the shortest possible time, to develop and produce means of indication, prophylaxis, including vaccine preparations with testing of their effectiveness, and to participate in international investigations into the probable use of biological agents.

One of the practical results of research in this field was the development and creation of the world's first vaccine against a new coronavirus infection, as well as vaccines against Ebola, Middle East respiratory syndrome MERS and a universal influenza vaccine.

In addition, the Russian Defence Minister was briefed on the development and improvement of the social infrastructure facilities created in the garrison.
