Eastern Military District organises training course for Lao People's Special Operation Forces

Troops from the Eastern Military District conducted the first-ever course to train Lao People's Special Operation Forces. The training of local soldiers took place in difficult climatic conditions in mountainous and forested terrain at the base of the Lao People's Special Operation Forces Regiment.
Vice President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) Bounthong Chitmany, Minister of Defence of the Lao PDR General Chansamone Chanyalath, Chief of General Staff of the Lao People's Army Colonel General Khamlieng Outhakaysone, Deputy Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Phanseng Bounphan, and Chief of the Office of the Minister of Defence of the Lao PDR Lieutenant General Saichay Kommasith oversaw the drills. Representatives of the Lao People's Armed Forces Command had high praise for the organisation of the training by Eastern MD's servicemen.
The head of the Russian military delegation, Colonel Ivan Tarayev, noted that the main objectives of the course were to strengthen the combat community, exchange experience in conducting combat operations with illegal armed groups, improve the tactical skills of units, demonstrate the technical means necessary to carry out special tasks in mountain and forest areas.
In addition, the Lao Defence Minister met with a Russian military delegation. During the meeting, the Lao Defence Minister noted that the level of training of officers and soldiers of the Special Operation Forces of the Lao People's Armed Forces has increased significantly. General Chansamone Chanyalath also said that this training is very important for the further development of long-term military cooperation between Russia and Laos, and contributes significantly to the development of interstate relations and ties between the peoples of the two countries.
