Black Sea Fleet frigate Admiral Grigorovich joins Algerian Navy ships in naval drills in Mediterranean Sea

The crew of the frigate Admiral Grigorovich of the Black Sea Fleet of the permanent group of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea takes part in the Joint Naval Drills 2023 with ships of the Navy of the Algerian People's National Army.

The Algerian Navy is participating in the exercise with the frigate Erradii, training ship La Soummam, tug boat El Moundjid, patrol aircraft, search and rescue helicopters, and a motor boat. The frigate Admiral Grigorovich, the search and rescue helicopter Ka-27PS, and a boarding team represent the Russian Navy.

The maritime phase of the exercise took place on 6 and 7 December in the Mediterranean Sea in the combat training areas of the Algerian Navy.

At sea, Russian and Algerian sailors practised cooperation in the suppression of illegal activities at sea: piracy, illegal transport of cargo, terrorist activities, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and also carried out a joint search and rescue operation.

A joint headquarters of the international naval link was established for the maritime phase of the drills. It was headed by Colonel Rebbat Rachid of the Algerian Navy and Captain 1st Rank Oleg Knyazev of the Russian Navy, representatives of the two countries' fleets.

The results of the exercises will be summed up on the territory of the Algerian naval base at the exercise's coastal headquarters.
