Military relations between Moscow and China are at the highest level and are not directed against third countries

08.11.2023

Russian Minister of Defence Sergei Shoigu discussed topical issues of military cooperation between the two countries with Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China Colonel General Zhang Youxia.

'Russian-Chinese relations in the military sphere are steadily developing in all areas. We regularly conduct joint operational and combat training activities on land, in the air and at sea, and shoulder to shoulder we successfully practise combat training tasks of varying complexity. And all these actions are not directed against third countries and are carried out solely in each other's interests,' said Sergei Shoigu.

The head of the Russian Defence Ministry recalled that his previous meeting with Zhang Youxia took place last week in China on the margins of the 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum.

'Today we are holding talks in Russia. Such dynamics of military contacts testifies to the high level of military cooperation between our countries,' said Sergei Shoigu. He emphasised that friendly and trusting relations between the leaders of the two countries - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping play a key role in strengthening Russian-Chinese strategic ties.

'This year the heads of states held two face-to-face meetings in Moscow and Beijing. We are aiming at the unconditional implementation of all the agreements reached at the highest level,' said the Russian Defence Minister.

In turn, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China Colonel General Zhang Youxia said that 'Russian-Chinese relations are at the highest level.'

'Thanks to the personal promotion of the strategic leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, China-Russia relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation are at the highest level in the new era,' said the Chinese military commander. He said, 'The two sides always support each other on issues concerning the parties' core interests and key concerns, and work closely together in international and regional affairs.'

'A pattern of strategic trust between powers has been established, as well as a pattern of mutually beneficial cooperation between neighbours,' said Zhang Youxia. He noted that this time he is leading the Chinese delegation precisely to implement all the agreements of the leaders of the Russian Federation and China' and promote practical cooperation in the military sphere and further strengthen inter-army relations.'
