The talks were held in a friendly atmosphere and confirmed mutual intention to further develop comprehensive interaction of the defence departments.
The head of the Russian military department noted that 'Russia is developing equal cooperation with Nicaragua on a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including in defence sphere'.
'We highly appreciate bilateral cooperation in the international arena. Our countries adhere to common positions on key issues of global and regional security,' said Sergei Shoigu.
'We reject the dictates and political pressure that are spreading in the world as a result of Western states led by the United States turning from diplomacy to blackmail and threats. With Nicaragua and other like-minded nations, we will counteract this, pay attention that such behaviour is unacceptable,' said Sergei Shoigu.
In turn, Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the Republic of Nicaragua Julio Avilés Castillo, said that 'Ukraine has been repeatedly used by NATO, which is led by the United States, thus trying, among other things, to open the wounds of the Ukrainian people. The Russian people are not fighting the Ukrainian people. Ukraine fights Russia on behalf of NATO and thus tries to undermine the security of the Russian Federation. And it is trying to destabilise, trying to wage a provocative war'.
Julio Avilés Castillo also noted that the United States and its allies are trying to destabilise the situation in countries 'that are located next to Russia, close to China - they are trying to have a destructive impact'. 'This is not an accident. And the situation around Ukraine is not an accident. Everything comes from the military alliance, which we are all well aware of, and within the framework of other military alliances that are being formed by the Western world,' said the Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the Republic of Nicaragua.
'The bottom line,' he noted, 'is that the truth is on Russia's side. Because Russia's security was indeed under threat and the people in south-eastern Ukraine were regularly attacked'.
'Since 2014, the West has been using Ukraine to try to threaten the Russian Federation. We are well aware that the border of Ukraine with Russia is a thousand kilometres, and from Ukraine to Moscow is less than a thousand kilometres, and in view of this, this issue is quite challenging when we talk about the security of the country,' the military leader said.
