Russian Defence Minister General of the Army holds meeting at Joint Group of Forces Headquarters
05.10.2023
At the end of the meeting, the head of the military department drew attention to the issues of organisation and provision of combat training for servicemen and volunteers in reserve units. 'In general, there is planned work going on, active in all directions. Today I oversaw and inspected the combat training work of reserve regiments at the training ranges of the Southern Military District. Both contract servicemen in the last month and volunteers are being trained there at the same time,' Sergei Shoigu said.
'I would like to recognise our instructing officers who lead the pre-training. All 100% involved in combat training on all fronts have combat experience. They include those who have been wounded in combat but still returned to fight. And this is the most effective way to use those who are really experienced in fighting,' the Russian Defence Minister stressed. 'As decided by the General Staff, we have formed reserve regiments of contract servicemen for each Group of Forces. Today we have nine reserve regiments that are being prepared and they are being constantly reinforced in a planned manner,' the head of the military department said.
'When it comes to volunteers, during this time we have recruited 38,000 volunteers. People come highly motivated, ready to fulfil combat missions. Someone already has combat experience, because many volunteers return for a second time after a six-month contract, and some return for a third time,' Sergei Shoigu said.
'It is impossible not to mention our regions. Regions in which this work is carried out at practically all levels, including, of course, the leadership of these regions. I must mention the Republic of Yakutia. The head of the Republic, Aysen Nikolayev, is personally involved in this process. And the Yakutia detachment, the volunteer detachment, I mean, has found its glory. For the military actions in which he took part and led, the head of the military department, Aleksandr Kolesov, received the title of hero,' the head of the military department stressed.
'I would also like to thank the head of the Republic of Buryatia, Aleksei Tsydenov. They not only form volunteer units there. They are also very attentive to the families and our fighters returning home. Some are coming to recover from their wounds, others are coming on a leave. But our servicemen get a very, very honourable reception there. And of course they follow their way of fighting, how they fight, where they fight, they are interested in that all the time. Of course, it is impossible to ignore the families of our servicemen. They are waiting for them and sending all sorts of wishes. And, of course, we have to support the wives and parents of those who are fighting in an honourable way,' Sergei Shoigu said.
'There is a lot to mention about all the regions. Someone separately prepares and adopts a family social package for our military personnel, separately equates volunteers, because it is already difficult to distinguish them. They include Oleg Kozhemyako, the governor of the Primorsky region, and Aleksei Dyumin, the governor of the Tula region. Of course, it would be impossible not to mention the governor of Krasnodar, Veniamin Kondratiev. There is a serious, large process of unitying all our regions, not only in the provision of a large amount of humanitarian aid, but also in the restoration and revival of the republics that have become part of the Russian Federation,' the Defence Minister said.
'I would like to make a special mention of the female volunteers, girls, you might say. I met them there today at the shooting range, they're all getting ready at the same time. They are already trained. They have combat experience. These are doctors, healthcare specialists. Girls from different places: from Tula, from Yalta, from Krasnodar and Siberia, from everywhere. And of course their question is a surprise to me: 'We've been here a long time. We should have been sent there a long time ago,' the minister revealed.
'But of course I asked the people who are doing the training on these ranges why they don't send them. And they don't send them because they are already teaching those who have to go. And those who are inexperienced in wound first aid and self-help. And frankly speaking, it was a great surprise to me that we have a large number of women who volunteer and perform tasks as well as men,' Sergei Shoigu said.
'My thanks to all of you. My hope is that with people like that we have no other option but victory'.
