21.09.2023

In the waters of the Chukchi and Bering seas, as well as on the Chukotka Peninsula, the Pacific Fleet's forces continue the Finval 2023 exercise under the leadership of Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, to protect the Northern Sea Route.

During the exercise, two surface search and attack groups made up of the corvettes Sovershenny and Gremyashchy and the small anti-submarine ships Ust-Ilimsk and MPK-107 were deployed, which, in cooperation with Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft of the Pacific Fleet Naval Aviation, practised searching for and attacking submarines of the adversary. A Pacific Fleet's submarine was acting as an adversary during the exercise.

The crews of the ships practised joint manoeuvring, evasion from the attack of the underwater enemy and its simulated destruction with the use of anti-submarine weapon systems.

For reference:

About 10,000 troops and more than 50 pieces of military hardware, including: surface ships and support vessels, submarines, naval planes and helicopters, Bal and Bastion coastal missile systems, as well as wheeled and tracked armoured vehicles of high cross-country ability are involved in the Finval 2023 tactical exercise.

During the manoeuvres, cruise missiles were successfully fired at a complex target position in the north-eastern part of the Bering Sea, cruise missiles were intercepted, and a number of other combat exercises were carried out.

All episodes of the exercise are defensive in nature and are intended to improve the training of forces for operations on Russia's north-eastern borders.
