During Finval exercise, MiG-31 fighter jet crews practise interception of mock enemy cruise missile above Chukotka
19.09.2023
In the waters of the Chukchi and Bering seas, as well as on the Chukotka peninsula, the Finval-2023 tactical exercise of the Pacific Fleet's forces (troops) to protect connections of the Northern Sea Route continues. The exercise is conducted under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov.
One of the important episodes of the exercise was the practice of air defence of the Chukotka peninsula from the mock enemy aerial attack. To intercept target cruise missiles, two MiG-31 fighters were launched from Anadyr airfield. The crews destroyed the aerial targets using air-to-air missiles.
After completing the assigned tasks, the aircraft returned to the airfield of departure.
About 10,000 servicemen and more than 50 pieces of military hardware, including: surface ships and support vessels, submarines, aircraft and helicopters of naval aviation, Bal and Bastion coastal missile systems, as well as wheeled and tracked armoured vehicles of high cross-country ability take part in the Finval 2023 tactical exercise.
During the manoeuvres, cruise missiles were successfully launched on a complex target in the north-eastern part of the Bering Sea.
All episodes of the exercise are of a defensive nature and are intended to improve the training of forces and troops for operations on Russia's north-eastern borders.
