Northern Fleet Bastion coastal defence missile systems perform missile launches during exercise

19.09.2023

As part of the exercise with the expeditionary grouping of forces and troops for the protection of the Arctic island area and the sea coast of the Russian Federation, the Northern Fleet's Bastion defence coastal missile systems practised training and combat missions to destroy surface targets of a mock enemy.

After receiving the task of destroying the ship group of the mock enemy, a division of the Bastion coastal missile system of the Northern Fleet tactical group marched from its permanent deployment point to the position area. After receiving a signal to use missile weapons, the Bastion missile systems' combat crews cubducted an electronic launch at a target simulating a group of mock enemy ships located at a distance of about 300 kilometres.

Bastion defence coastal missile systems with supersonic Oniks anti-ship cruise missiles make it possible to create access and manoeuvre restriction area in the Arctic and provide coastal defence for over 600 kilometres. The homing cruise missile moves to the target 2.5 times faster than the speed of sound, is practically elusive for modern air defence systems and is capable of disabling a warship of any displacement at a distance of several hundred kilometres.
