Tsahkna to representatives of border states: we should implement the ban on Russian vehicles together

Today Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna had a video meeting with representatives of Finland, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to discuss additional sanctions on Russia and the entry ban on Russian vehicles.
The meeting covered the entry ban for cars with Russian licence plates, which entered into force this morning. Latvia and Lithuania have imposed a similar restriction. Tsahkna called for a joint implementation of the entry ban because this would add to the impact of the restriction and make it possible to further raise the cost of the aggression for Russia. "We also discussed what to do about vehicles with Russian licence plates that are already in the European Union, so that our approach would be uniform," Tsahkna said, adding he would also raise the topic in the government tomorrow.
They also spoke about additional sanctions on Russia. "In the European Union, we are working on the 12th package of sanctions against Russia, which is continuing its inhuman war in Ukraine," Tsahkna said. "Our message remains the same. We will continue restricting Russia's cash flow for as long as necessary."
Tsahkna also raised the issue of improving the prevention of sanctions circumvention, including the transit of sensitive goods through Russia to third countries. "I do not think there are grounds for continuing the transit of those goods through Russia which the aggressor needs for continuing its inhuman war in Ukraine," Tsahkna said. "We must limit the possibility that we are contributing to Russia's aggression with the transit."
