Anti-Fascist Congress to help unite progressive forces

18.08.2023

'I am confident that the Second International Anti-Fascist Congress will help unite progressive forces from different nations in eradicating hateful Nazi ideas,' Sergei Shoigu said.

Sergei Shoigu also noted that fighting against Nazism has become even more topical issue. 'Western globalist elites continue to talk about their exceptionalism triggering deadly conflicts and coups, fostering Russophobia and aggressive nationalism, destroying morality and family values, and trying to impose their will on other nations, along with their system of violence and suppression. The goal of today's revanchists is to ensure Russia's disintegration and collapse, destroy the Union State, and finally break down the system of global security and international law. This is exactly the reason for the catastrophe the Ukrainian people are enduring today. They have become hostages to the criminal Kiev regime and its Western masters, and are being used as a bargaining chip for the implementation of the brutal, perfidiously evil plans,' the head of the Russian military department stressed.

'In present-day conditions I would like to emphasise that relations between Russia and Belarus have a solid basis and are constantly strengthening. Together, we effectively address issues of defence management, countering most topical challenges and threats,' Sergei Shoigu noted.

Over 30 countries are participating in the Second International Anti-Fascist Congress. The forum aims to unite healthy international forces to confront the spread of fascist and Nazi ideas and preserve the historical truth about World War II. The Congress brings together military delegations, diplomatic professionals, government officials and members of public organisations, as well as representatives of the academic community, major religious denominations, media outlets, and veterans of the Great Patriotic War. The congress participants will discuss countering the spread of fascist ideology, preventing historical distortion and preserving historical memory, the role and place of the state, the public, representatives of science and religious associations in the fight against neo-fascism during the plenary session and during the work of thematic sections, which will be held in Minsk's Central House of Officers.

The First International Anti-Fascist Congress took place at the Patriot Congress and Exhibition Centre outside Moscow on 20 August 2022 in conjunction with the Army 2022 International Military-Technical Forum. The Congress was attended by military attachés from 26 nations and nine foreign delegations, lawmakers of the State Duma, spiritual leaders of the country's largest confessions, political and popular figures from Donbass, and veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
