
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu holds talks with Chinese Minister of National Defence Li Shangfu

Russia and China maintain high-level military contacts, conduct joint exercises on land, sea and in the air, said Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu. 'We maintain high–level contacts, delegation exchange is actively underway, we conduct joint exercises and trainings – all world channels and not only show this – about our joint patrols, both on land, sea and in the air,' Sergei Shoigu said during a working meeting with Chinese Minister of National Defence Li Shangfu at the 1th Moscow Conference on International Security on Tuesday.
Sergei Shoigu noted that cooperation with China is both on a bilateral basis and in multilateral formats – within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and ADMM Plus. The Minister stressed that 'Russia and China are strategic partners, good neighbours and loyal friends.'
'During the visit of the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping to the Russian Federation in March this year, the leaders of both countries confirmed that the Russian-Chinese comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation have reached the highest point of development in the history of bilateral relations. We are implementing the agreements of our leaders in practice,' said the Russian Defence Minister.
He thanked his colleague for participating in the 11th Moscow Conference on International Security, noting that Li Shangfu's informative speech at its opening and the analysis of the international situation presented 'deserves special attention.'
Sergei Shoigu also stressed that China traditionally actively participates in the ARMY 2023 International Military-Technical Forum, which started the day before, and China's products traditionally arouse great interest of specialists.
'I visited your exposition yesterday, it broadly represents the military-industrial complex of China. I saw a lot of new and promising things,' said the Russian Defence Minister. According to Sergei Shoigu, 'a big, serious step has been taken since the previous exhibition, where the products of the Chinese industry were also widely presented.'
'Today, all companies, all countries represented at the exhibition take into account the experience of recent events, including events in the zone of the special military operation,' said Sergei Shoigu. He expressed confidence that today's meeting will contribute to the deepening of traditionally friendly ties between the departments of the both countries, will serve to strengthen regional and global security.
Sergei Shoigu also drew attention to the fact that this is his third meeting with the Chinese Minister of National Defence this year. The Russian Defence Minister personally congratulated his colleague on the 96th anniversary of the formation of the People's Liberation Army of China, which was celebrated on August 1, wishing him success in protecting the Fatherland, strengthening defence capabilities, and further modernisation of the army and navy.
