Russian military delegation hold working meeting with Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces of Republic of Union of Myanmar

Representatives of the Russian Defence Ministry held a working meeting with Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar General Maung Maung Aye.

During the meeting, head of Russian delegation Deputy Commander of the Eastern MD's Forces Lieutenant General Mikhail Nosulev discussed with Maung Maung Aye the stages of the command-staff training exercise on countering terrorism with the participation of countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and dialogue partners of ADMM Plus.

Representatives of military departments also noted the increasing level of co-operation and high professionalism of the servicemen involved in the training.

Officers of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Eastern MD and the Pacific Fleet together with servicemen from other ASEAN countries are taking part in a joint command and staff training exercise, began on 2 August 2023 in Nay Pyi Taw (Myanmar).

Military officials from Brunei, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and India oversee the drills.

ADMM Plus is a mechanism of interaction between the defence departments of ten countries of Southeast Asia (ASEAN) and dialogue partner states (Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russia, USA), established in April 2010 at the initiative of Vietnam. The activities of specialists within ADMM Plus are carried out in seven Expert Working Groups: on humanitarian demining, humanitarian assistance and emergency response, military medicine, maritime security, counter-terrorism, organisation of peacekeeping operations, and cyber security.
