Ships of Russian and Chinese Navy commence joint maritime patrols in Pacific Ocean waters

The warships of the Russian and Chinese Navy have started to fulfil the tasks of the third joint maritime patrol in the Pacific Ocean.

After ships of the Russian and Chinese Navy left Vladivostok, a joint detachment was formed in the waters of Peter the Great Bay and began to move along the route previously agreed upon by the parties.

The objectives of the joint patrols are to strengthen naval cooperation between Russia and China, maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, monitor the sea area and protect objects of maritime economic activity of the Russian Federation and China.

During the patrol, the Russian and Chinese sailors will practice sailing in different formations, organisation of all types of squadron defence, water and fuel replenishment on the move, anti-submarine tasks, as well as deck helicopter flights with take-offs and landings on the ships of the parties.

The Russian Federation is represented in the international detachment by the large anti-submarine ships Admiral Tributs and Admiral Panteleyev, the corvettes Gremyashchy and Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov, and the medium-sized naval tanker Pechenga. From the Chinese Navy, the destroyers Guiyang and Tsitsikar, the patrols, the patrol ships Tunlin and Zhizhao and the integrated supply ship Taihu are taking part in the patrols.

During the patrols, the crews of the surface ships will be assisted by aircraft of the Pacific Fleet's naval aviation and aviation of the People's Liberation Army of China.

A few days earlier, Russian and Chinese naval sailors held a joint naval exercise 'North/Interaction - 2023' in the Sea of Japan.

The first joint Russian-Chinese naval patrol was held in 2021.

The second Russian-Chinese patrol took place in autumn 2022.
