
Russian Defence Minister checks combat duty at a new site of the Space Monitoring System

Russian Defence Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu has checked combat duty at a new facility of the Space Monitoring System as part of a working visit to the troops of the Western Military District.
Commander of the Space Force - Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces Colonel General Aleksandr Golovko reported to the Russian Defence Minister on the technical and functional characteristics as well as the prospects for further development of the new facility.
The head of the Russian military department checked the organisation of combat duty by crewsof the specialized radar station for detection of small objects of space objects.
The Minister of Defence was informed that the new station has unrivaled capabilities for automatic search, detection, and control of small space objects in near-Earth orbit.
Aleksandr Golovko noted that the number of escorted small-size space objects grew fourfold following the launch of the new station, and the minimum size of the escorted space object reduced to 10 centimeters, while the time to identify small space objects after launch decreased by twofold.
It was also reported to Sergei Shoigu that with an increase in the controlled near-Earth space area by 2027, the time to detect spacecraft after launch or manoeuver will be cut in half, and the time to determine the destination of foreign spacecraft will be cut in half.
Pavel Sozinov, General Designer - Deputy General Director of Almaz-Antey Concern JSC, stressed that as of today there are no world and Russian analogues of a specialised radar station for detection of small-sized space objects.
