Russian Fleet detachment joins Komodo 2023 Multilateral Naval Exercise off coast of Indonesia

A Russian Pacific Fleet detachment, including corvettes Gromky, Sovershenny, medium-sized tanker Pechenga, has joined the Komodo2023 Multilateral Naval Exercise, held from 5 to 8 June 2023 off the coast of Indonesia. The exercise includes naval and land stages.

Shortly before the exercises, the detachment arrived at Makassar port of the Indonesian island Sulawesi, where naval parade of the drills' participants took place. The President of Indonesia welcomed naval units of more than 30 states.

The joint exersice purpose is to strengthen partnership of the states' naval forces.

The exercises will focus on interaction of naval crews from different countries during joint humanitarian missions, natural disasters and catastrophes response and recovery efforts.

The Russian Pacific Fleet detachment takes part in the exercises during long-range cruise mission in the Asia Pacific region.

The Komodo 2023 Multilateral Naval Exercise takes place every two years since 2014.
